Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all our Stingers are safe and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Confirmed Positive COVID Case

On Saturday, December 4, we received confirmation of a positive COVID-19 case in one of our classes.  Communication from Public Health was sent out centrally to all Storrington families.  The messaging and direction you received, is dependent on whether or not your child is in the affected cohort.  Please make sure to take the time to read the communication for information regarding direction and next steps.

At the school level, we continue to be diligent with maintaining the COVID-19 protocols and reminding students about the importance of social distancing, hand washing/sanitizing and wearing a mask at all times.  Please take the time to reinforce these reminders with your child(ren).

Gould Lake Outdoor Centre 2022 Summer Program

After a two year hiatus, the Gould Lake Outdoor Centre will be running their popular summer camps for this upcoming season.

Registration has begun and the link can be found at Gould Lake Registration System (limestone.on.ca)

Staff from Gould Lake have typically visited classes but have decided to try a different approach this year. Below are links to some YouTube videos you may wish to watch with your children to learn more about the programs.

Intermediate Boys’ and Girls’ Storrington Volleyball Teams

During the last month, members of our intermediate boys’ recreational volleyball team and our girls’ competitive volleyball team have been busy practicing in preparation for upcoming tournaments.  Our intermediate girls volleyball team is playing on December 13 at Artillery Park and the boys’ recreational volleyball team is playing on December 8 at the Boys and Girls Club.  We want to wish them good luck and we know that they will do a great job representing Storrington.

Storrington Jingle Bell Walk/Non-Perishable Food Donations

A reminder that our Storrington Jingle Bell Walk is scheduled for Friday, December 10th.  As always, in conjunction with the Jingle Bell Walk, we will be accepting non-perishable food items for the Battersea United Church. Students are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items, which will be used to provide food baskets for families in need.  We will be accepting food donations until Friday, December 10.

Hot Lunch Orders

The online ordering is open to order hot lunch for December 15 and December 17.  The ordering window for those dates will close on Sunday, December 12 at 12:00.

Reporting Your Child’s Absence- COVID Related Absence

When reporting your child’s absence, there is a new absence code that should be used if the absence is COVID-related.  Please use the code, “COVID Related”, when:

-your child is sick with COVID-19 symptoms and are going for COVID testing

-your child is waiting for the results of the COVID test

-you have decided to self-isolate your child for 10 days

Importance of Daily Screening

A friendly reminder to our school community around the importance of screening your child every morning using the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool.   As well, each morning, students in Grades 7 and 8 are required to complete the Covid Screener Confirmation.  The confirmation is sent daily to Grade 7 and 8 students’ Limestone email accounts.

On Friday, December 3, Kingston Public Health revised their screening requirements and direction for school attendance. Below are the revised symptom lists and updated directions.

Most Common COVID-19 Symptoms

- Fever (37.8°C/100°F) and/or chills

- Cough or barking cough

- Shortness of breath

- Decrease or loss of taste or smell

- Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea

Other Symptoms of Extended COVID-19 Symptoms

- Sore throat

- Difficulty swallowing

- Runny or stuffy nose

- Abdominal pain

- Headache

- Conjunctivitis (pink eye)

- Decreased or lack of appetite

What to do next:

If your student has one or more of the Most Common Symptoms or Other Symptoms of COVID-19:

Your student must go home and self-isolate until:

- They receive a negative COVID-19 test result, or

- They receive an alternative diagnosis by a health care professional, or

- It has been 10 days since symptom onset.

What household members need to do:

If your student has one or more of the Most Common Symptoms of COVID-19:

- Household members, including siblings, who are not fully vaccinated are required to isolate until the symptomatic student receives a negative COVID-19 test result or an alternative diagnosis from a health care provider. If the symptomatic student is not tested for COVID-19, these household members must isolate for 10 days from their last contact with that symptomatic student (a total of 20 days if the symptomatic student is not able to effectively self-isolate).

- Household members, including siblings, who are fully vaccinated or previously positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days and have since been cleared are not required to isolate if they are symptom free. These household members can attend work or school if they pass the daily screenings.

If your student has one or more of the Other Symptoms of COVID-19:

- Household members, including siblings, do not need to stay home or isolate while the student with symptoms from the extended symptom list only is getting tested and waiting for a negative result. Household members can attend work or school if they pass the daily screenings.
