Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that this email finds all our Stingers well and healthy.

We continue to be very proud of the flexibility and resiliency shown by our Storrington students and community through our transition back to face-to-face learning.  All of our students have quickly adapted to the COVID protocols and have required minimal reminders around social distancing and mask-wearing.  Their commitment to their health and the well-being of others has helped ensure a safe return for all.  Great job Stingers!

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Black History Month

During the month of February, Storrington students will recognize Black History Month.  Black History Month is a way for Canadians to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians.  Through their work and dedication, they have helped to enhance and define the Canadian culture and to make Canada into the country that it is today. Please take the time to discuss, with your child, the importance of why we recognize and celebrate Black History Month.

Staffing News

Please join me in welcoming Edward Goodfellow to the Storrington team, who will be our new Educational Assistant.  We know that he will be a great addition to the Storrington staff and community.

Valentine’s Day Cards/Treats

Due to COVID protocol and to ensure student and staff safety, we will not be allowing students to bring in any Valentine’s Day cards or treats.  Within classes, students will complete their own kindness and caring activities to recognize Valentine’s Day.  We are also asking students to wear pink, red or white for Pink, Red and White Day on February 12.

Student Pictures

Due to the extended school closure, Lifetouch Photography has provided us with a new due date for photo orders.  Orders placed before Friday, February 12, 2021, will receive free shipping and handling.  Orders placed after Friday, February 12 will be subject to a $5.99 shipping and handling fee.

Technology Return

Thank you to all our families who have returned their borrowed devices to the school.  If you still have a school device (iPad or Chromebook) please send the device back to school with your child or set up a time for drop-off by calling the school.  We are hoping that all devices can be returned as soon as possible so that they can be used for in-class instruction.

Elementary Virtual School Council

If any families are interested in participating on the Elementary Virtual School Council, please contact the Storrington school office for more information and details.  Their first meeting is on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

Yard Supervisor Needed

We currently have a community member who is interested in sharing in the yard supervision duties with another person.   If you are interested in sharing in this position, please contact the school office.  The position involves yard supervision daily, from 10:30 to 11:30 and 1:00 to 2:00.  Compensation is provided.  A valid CPIC is required.

KFLA Public Health COVID Protocol

It is important that we continue to follow the KFLA Public Health COVID protocol.

The KFLA Public Health protocol requires any students who are displaying a primary symptom (fever over 37.8, shortness of breath, cough, or loss of sense of smell/taste) to stay home, self-isolate and contact an assessment centre or health care provider.  It is also recommended that household members isolate until the child/student receives a negative test result.

If a student has one secondary symptom (sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or muscle aches), they are expected to stay home for at least 24 hours after symptoms begin to improve.

If a student has two or more secondary symptoms, students are required to stay home, self-isolate and contact an assessment center or health care provider.  Again, it is recommended that household members isolate until the child/student receives a negative test result.
