Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that this email finds you all well and healthy.

We are very excited to be welcoming our Stingers back into Storrington on Monday, January 17th.  Even though we had the opportunity to continue the learning remotely, it doesn’t replace the experiences and connections from being in-person.  As excited as we are, we know that there will be many mixed emotions that come with the return to school. Collaboratively, we can help to alleviate some of those emotions by being diligent in following all the Covid safety protocols.  We are looking forward to continuing our work together in ensuring that we are doing our best to keep our staff and students safe and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Short-Term Virtual Learning

If you intend on having your child(ren) participate in short-term virtual learning, please notify your child(ren)’s teacher or the school office.  Families, who would like to continue with short-term virtual learning, can expect to receive communication on Monday or Tuesday from your child(ren)’s classroom teacher, sharing asynchronous and synchronous information and expectations.

Next week, LDSB will send a survey to elementary families asking for their longer-term intention:

-Extending short-term virtual learning beyond February 3, 2022, with the intention of returning to in-person learning this school year

-Enroll in LDSB Elementary Virtual School for the remainder of the school year (transition to take place at the beginning of term two (February 3, 2022)

Elementary families who plan to continue with in-person learning do not need to complete the survey.

Attendance for Students Participating in Short-Term Virtual Learning

Families who wish to have their child(ren) continue with remote learning beginning January 17, 2022 should go into the SchoolMessenger app or SchoolMessenger website and enter their student’s attendance daily as “Short-term Virtual,” or call the school directly. This initial period of short-term virtual learning will be supported by students’ current teachers and will be mostly asynchronous learning.

Technology Return

If you borrowed a device (iPad or Chromebook) from the school, we are asking that you send the device back to school with your child.  Families are also welcome to contact the school to set up a time for drop-off.  We are hoping that all devices can be returned this week so that they can be used for in-class instruction.

Inclement Weather/Bus Cancellations

With the current weather forecast for tomorrow, it is important to stay informed regarding possible bus delays or cancellations.  There are several ways parents can stay up-to-date with bus information:

-Using Twitter, parents can follow @BusDelayNCancel.

-Download the Triboard BusPlanner Delays app.

-Subscribe to Triboard through email.

-Receive daily information by visiting http://triboard.ca.

For more information regarding how you can access bus delay or cancellation notifications, please visit: https://triboard.ca/busdelays/.

Inclement Weather and Attendance Reporting

All parents/guardians are asked to report their student’s absence regardless of the reason including during bus cancellations. Sometimes, bused students find alternative ways to school and we want to ensure we know the whereabouts of every student to ensure their safety and well-being. Knowing who is supposed to be at school, will allow school office staff to best ensure all students are accounted for.

When reporting your child’s absence on inclement weather days, please select one of the following:

·   Bus Cancellation as the reason for absence if your student is bused

·   Inclement Weather as the reason for the absence if your student walks but chooses not to attend

If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, our SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence.

Changes to Kindergarten Masking Requirements

Public Health has mandated that all students in Kindergarten are required to wear a mask unless they have a medical exemption.  If your child should be exempted from wearing a mask, please contact the office regarding next steps.

Confirmation of Daily Screening

Families must diligently screen students for symptoms of COVID-19 using  the revised screening tool. As well, each morning, students in Grades 7 and 8 are required to complete the Covid Screener Confirmation.  The confirmation is sent daily to Grade 7 and 8 students’ Limestone email accounts.  Students should not come to school if they have any symptoms and/or feel sick. Families should ensure they test students using the Rapid Antigen Tests provided before the break as an additional screening tool before returning students to school on Wednesday, January 5. If the test is positive, students should isolate based on the new public health directives.

Hot Lunch Orders

The online ordering is open to order hot lunch for January 19 and January 21.  The ordering window for those dates will close on Sunday, January 16 at 12:00.
