Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all our Stingers are well and healthy.

It is hard to believe that we are entering our third week of remote learning. We continue to be impressed with everyone’s perseverance and engagement with the learning activities and virtual meetings.  We appreciate all your hard work and hope that you’re continuing to find opportunities to focus on your family’s health and well-being.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Remote Learning Update

We are currently scheduled to return to face-to-face learning on Monday, January 25th.  Although we are very hopeful that we are able to return on that date, the provincial government has announced that the return date will be dependent on regional COVID data/cases.  An update from the government regarding our return date will be shared on Wednesday, January 20th.

Technology Distribution/Pick-Up

If there are still families who require technology, please contact the school to arrange a time for pick-up.

Please continue to follow the Storrington website at http://www.storrington.limestone.on.ca, the LDSB website at www.limestone.on.ca, the Storrington Twitter account at @StorrPS_LDSB and the LDSB Twitter account at @LimestoneDSB, for updates and information.

Tropical Spirit Day

Thank you to all our Stingers who wore their tropical clothes last week to show their Stinger spirit.  Although, we couldn’t celebrate our spirit day together, it was great to see so many students dressed in their beach clothes.  It looks like we’re all ready for the sunshine!

Resources for Families

For educational resources and activities, students are encouraged to visit the Ministry’s Learn-at-Home website at https://www.ontario.ca/page/learn-at-home

The Ontario Government of Ontario is offering a one-time funding for parents to help offset costs during the 2020-2021 school year. Eligible parents or guardians will receive a one-time payment of:

• $200 for each student up to age 12

• $250 for each student or youth up to age 21 with special needs

• NEW $200 for student age 13 to Grade 12 including students who are in secondary school that are over age 18

The deadline to apply is February 8, 2021. Learn more on the government’s Support for Learners webpage.

If you are looking for information regarding community supports, have questions or require any assistance, you are more than welcome to email me directly at [email protected].  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for any reason.

Yard Supervisor Needed

We are currently looking for a yard supervisor to cover daily, from 10:30 to 11:30 and 1:00 to 2:00.  Compensation is provided.  A valid CPIC is required.  If you are interested, please contact the office.

KFLA Public Health COVID Protocol

Although we are learning remotely, it is important that we continue to follow the KFLA Public Health COVID protocol.

The KFLA Public Health protocol requires any students who are displaying a primary symptom (fever over 37.8, shortness of breath, cough, or loss of sense of smell/taste) to stay home, self-isolate and contact an assessment centre or health care provider.  It is also recommended that household members isolate until the child/student receives a negative test result.

If a student has one secondary symptom (sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or muscle aches), they are expected to stay home for at least 24 hours after symptoms begin to improve.

If a student has two or more secondary symptoms, students are required to stay home, self-isolate and contact an assessment center or health care provider.  Again, it is recommended that household members isolate until the child/student receives a negative test result.
