Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that this email finds you all well and healthy.  It was amazing to see our Stingers and to be back to face-to-face learning.  We had a great first week back and we were all really impressed at how our Stingers quickly got back into school routines.  We were also really proud of their diligence with the Covid routines and protocols in keeping themselves and their fellow Stingers safe.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Short-Term Virtual Learning Survey

A reminder that if you haven’t contacted the school to share your intentions of having your child(ren) participate in short-term virtual learning, please notify your child(ren)’s teacher or the school office.

A survey was sent out to elementary families asking for their longer-term intention:

-Extending short-term virtual learning beyond February 3, 2022, with the intention of returning to in-person learning this school year

-Enroll in LDSB Elementary Virtual School for the remainder of the school year (transition to take place at the beginning of term two (February 3, 2022)

The survey closes on Monday, January 24 and will be used to guide the board’s decisions around remote learning options.

Bell Let’s Talk Day

Now more than ever, it is important to take some time to focus on mental health and well-being.  On Wednesday, January 26, we will recognize Bell Let’s Talk Day.  Bell Let’s Talk Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness around mental health and creating positive change by reducing the stigma associated with mental health.  Within the school, we will be participating in several activities to further raise awareness and to educate students about mental health and the supports that are available.

Family Literacy Day

Thursday, January 27 is Family Literacy Day.  Family Literacy Day is dedicated to raising awareness around the importance of reading and engaging in literacy activities as a family.  The theme of this year’s Family Literacy Day is Learning in the Great Outdoors.  To support Family Literacy Day, all students will receive a booklet of fun activities that can be completed as a family.

If you’re looking for a fun activity to do with the family on Thursday, families can sign up for a special event with author and illustrator Barbara Reid.  Barbara will be doing a demonstration on how to use clay to create a picture.  Her presentation will include sharing techniques you can use to make different things, followed by a question and answer session.  The activity is geared towards students in grades 1 to 6.  To register your child, please click here: Barbara Reid Presentation.  Space is limited so you will want to register as soon as possible to secure your spot.

Technology Return

A reminder that if you borrowed a device (iPad or Chromebook) from the school, we are asking that you send the device back to school with your child.  Families are also welcome to contact the school to set up a time for drop-off.  We are hoping that all devices can be returned this week so that they can be used for in-class instruction.

Confirmation of Daily Screening

Families must diligently screen students for symptoms of COVID-19 using  the revised screening tool. As well, each morning, students in Grades 7 and 8 are required to complete the Covid Screener Confirmation.  The confirmation is sent daily to Grade 7 and 8 students’ Limestone email accounts.  Students should not come to school if they have any symptoms and/or feel sick.

Inclement Weather and Hot Lunch

On inclement weather days, where buses are cancelled, hot lunch orders will also be cancelled.  Families will be provided with a full refund for their hot lunch order.  If your child attends on an inclement weather day, and would normally receive a hot lunch, please make sure to send them a full lunch.

Hot Lunch Orders

The online ordering is open to order hot lunch for January 26 and January 28.  The ordering window for those dates will close on Sunday, January 23 at 12:00.
