Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

I hope that this email continues to find you all well and healthy.  Now that the sun is finally shining, I am hoping that many of you are able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Storrington Choice Board Day- Friday, May 21

On Friday, May 21, we are asking all our students to participate in our school-wide, Storrington Choice Board Day.  Although Google Meets and virtual meetings will continue on Friday, teachers will not be posting lessons or learning activities during the day.  Instead, students will have 16 activities to choose from to support their learning and growth.  Teachers will be posting the Storrington Choice Board to their Google Classrooms on Friday morning.  We have tried to make all the activities fun, engaging and accessible to all students.  We have also tried to create many activities that could be done outdoors and collaboratively with family members.  We ask that if you and your child(ren) complete an activity, please share it with your child(ren)’s Google Classroom or email it to your child(ren)’s teacher.  We hope that all our Stingers will enjoy the activities and share their experiences with their teachers.

Storrington Bring Your Pet to School Day- Friday, May 28

On Friday, May 28, all our Stingers are invited to bring and show off their pets at their virtual meetings.  We look forward to meeting everyone’s furry friends.

Kindergarten Registrations

Our Storrington Kindergarten team is busy preparing to welcome our newest Stingers to Storrington.  This week, students who have registered their child for Kindergarten will receive a Welcome to Kindergarten package.  We have also prepared a slide show to familiarize students with the Kindergarten team and program.  The slide show will be available on our school website on Tuesday, May 18.  As we get closer to September, we will be providing more information and updates to further prepare our Kindergarten students for a successful transition to school.

Camo Day

Thank you to all our Stingers who showed their Stinger pride and dressed up in their camouflage or green clothing.  Even though we can’t be together, it was great to see our school spirit still shining.  Great job Stingers!

Extension of Virtual School Registration

Based on new direction from the Ministry of Education, families now have until June 4, 2021 to confirm their child’s registration for the 2021-2022 LDSB Virtual School.  If you are planning on registering your child in the LDSB Virtual School, families should confirm their child’s registration by accessing the registration link.  If your child will be attending face-to-face learning at Storrington Public School, no action is required.

Mental Health Strategy Survey Snapshot

Earlier in the school year, students in Grades 7 to 12 were able to voluntarily complete a mental health survey to provide input on the Limestone District School Board’s Mental Health and Substance Use Strategy.  A Student Survey Snapshot can be found on the board’s website or at https://limestone.on.ca/news/what_s_new/mental_health_strategy_survey_snapshot.

Mental Health Support for Families

Parents are encouraged to visit the School Mental Health Ontario website for more resources and activities to support mental health and well-being.  Information can be found by accessing the following website:  https://smho-smso.ca/parents-and-families/
