Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend and are well and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Forest of Reading

Our Stingers enjoyed the opportunity to vote for their favourite Forest of Reading book on Thursday! Once ballots were collected it was wonderful to see all of the participation, as well as our student voices that will help determine this years award winners in the various Forest of Reading categories.

Below is a list of the favorite books in each of the categories.

It was an extremely tight race for the Pizza Party in the intermediate and junior classes. Congratulations were announced to Mrs. Skinner's class for reading the most books over the past two months.

In the primary division, Mrs. Freeland’s and Ms. Griffin’s class won the Pizza draw for their participation in the Blue Spruce program.

We are looking forward to seeing what Canadian Authors and Illustrators will be awarded in each of the Forest of Reading categories later in May!

Marthon Math Club

Marathon Club is back!  Our Storrington Stingers will be participating in hte Marathon Club.  Our goal is for our primary division to complete a half marathon and our junior/intermediate divisions to complete a full marathon.   In the past years, we have celebrated our marathon accomplishments by going to the Invista Centre to run our final lap.  This year, we will celebrate our achievement at our school on our very own track.  Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 will receive 1 foot charm for every 5 laps they complete and students in Grades 3 to 8 will receive 1 foot charm for every 7 laps they complete.   Students will also receive certificates showing their achievements.

Speech and Hearing Month

The month of May is Speech and Hearing month.  This is a month dedicated to raising public awareness about communication health.  It is also an opportunity to highlight the importance of early detection and intervention in the treatment of communication disorders.

Mental Health Week

Next week is Mental Health Week.  Mental Health Week occurs during the first week of May and is dedicated to bringing awareness to issues regarding mental health and reducing the stigma associated with mental health.

Education Week

Education Week also occurs next week and provides school boards and schools with the opportunity to recognize and celebrate student achievement and the role that education plays in our lives.

With Speech and Hearing Month, Mental Health Week and Education Week, we will be using various opportunities to highlight their importance on announcements, through classroom activities, lessons and shared readings.

Garden Donations

Our Storrington Eco/Gardening Club is looking to create some community gardens for flowers and vegetables.  If you have any soil, peat, plants, seeds, bulbs, etc., that you would like to donate, please contact the office to make arrangements.

-If a household member has tested positive and your child is fully vaccinated and has no symptoms, they must wear a mask for 10 days.

-Upon return of a positive test and after 5 days of isolation, students and staff must wear a mask in all public settings for Day 6 to 10.
