Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend and are well and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Pride Month

During the month of June, we will celebrate Pride Month.  Not only is this a time to recognize the achievements and contributions of LGBTQ2S+ communities but to also reflect on our own impact in creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed and has a place.  During the month of June, students at Storrington will be learning more about the importance of the month.  We will also be flying the rainbow flag in recognition of the month.

National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month.  In recognizing National Indigenous History Month, we celebrate and honour the diversity, culture and history of Indigenous peoples in Canada.  Together, we all play a part in creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone is accepted and diversity is honoured.

PA Day- Friday, June 3

A reminder that Friday, June 3, is a PA Day.  There is no school on Friday for students.

Grade 7/8 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Workshops

Our students in Grades 7 and 8 are piloting a series of 3 workshops based on Sara K. Ahmed's, "Being the Change".  The presentations are provided by our LDSB Equity Team.  Each workshop is meant to build equity literacy and social comprehension skills, by exploring Equity, Diversion and Inclusion topics, and unpacking terminology through a balance of personal reflection, group discussions, and classroom activities.

The areas of focus are:

Exploring Identity

Challenging Bias/Assumptions

Recognizing and Addressing Microaggressions

Moving from Being a Bystander to an Upstander

Regional Track and Field Meet

We want to wish all our Stinger athletes good luck as they prepare to participate in the Regional Track and Field Meet on Monday, May 30.  We have a total of 71 students participating in the regional meet at the Invista Centre.  We know that all our Stingers will do an amazing job representing Storrington.

Organization for 2022-2023 School Year

We have received our staffing allocation for the 2022-2023 school year and as of right now, we are staying with our current allocation of classes which is 9.  This is always subject to change as the numbers change with students moving in to the Storrington area or moving away from the Storrington area.

Napanee and Kington 2022 Pride Parades

Limestone District School Board is excited to participate in both the Napanee and Kingston 2022 Pride Parades! Students, staff, and families are ALL invited to join LDSB at one or both parades. The Pride Parade in Napanee is on June 5 at 11:00 am and the Pride Parade in Kingston is on June 18 at 11:00 am. Details to come on meeting times and locations. We hope to see our Stingers representing our Storrington community.
