Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all our Stingers are safe and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

School Climate Survey

Starting next week, students in Grades 4 to 8 will be completing a School Climate Survey.  The goal of this anonymous survey is to collect student voice regarding their perspectives and actions to cultivate a more equitable and inclusive school climate.

The survey will be open to students in Grades 4 to 8 to access from November 15 to November 30.  Students will complete the survey during class time.

If you wish to opt your child out from taking the survey, please notify the school by November 12.

Indigenous Education Month

We recognize Louis Riel Day on Tuesday, November 16.  It is a day to commemorate the contributions of Louis Riel and the Metis people, both provincially and federally.  November 16th marks the anniversary of Louis Riel’s execution.  The day is dedicated to celebrating the work of Louis Riel and his advocacy in protecting the rights and culture of the Metis people.  As a school, we will highlight the many contributions of the Métis people to Canada, and to recognize the struggles that the Métis people continue to face.

Progress Reports

A reminder that Progress Reports go home on Friday, November 19th.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s progress, please contact your child’s teacher by calling the school or by writing a note in your child’s agenda.

Picture Retakes

A reminder that Picture Retake orders are due back to the school on Thursday, November 18th.

Remembrance Day Poppies

Thank you to all our Storrington Stingers who brought in donations in support of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Water Bottles

Please ensure that your child has a refillable water bottle.  With our COVID-19 protocol, students aren’t able to use the water fountains but they are able to refill their water bottles using the water bottle filling stations.

Hot Lunch Orders

The online ordering is open to order for November 24 (pizza) and November 26 (pasta).  The ordering window for those dates will close on Sunday, November 21 at 12:00.

Reporting Your Child’s Absence- COVID Related Absence

When reporting your child’s absence, there is a new absence code that should be used if the absence is COVID-related.  Please use the code, “COVID Related”, when:

-your child is sick with COVID-19 symptoms and are going for COVID testing

-your child is waiting for the results of the COVID test

-you have decided to self-isolate your child for 10 days

Importance of Daily Screening

A friendly reminder to our school community around the importance of screening your child every morning using the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool.

Prior to students attending school, please assess for the following Covid-19 related symptoms:

Fever and/or Chills

New or worsening cough

Barking cough

Shortness of breath

Decrease or loss of taste or smell

Digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain)

If a child displays one or more of these symptoms, the school will be contacting parents to come and pick up their child.  Your child and their siblings will have to go home and self-isolate until:

-they receive a negative Covid test result, or

-they receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional, or

-it has been 10 days since their symptom onset.
