Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all our Stingers have a safe and healthy Halloween.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Digital Acceptable Use and Freedom of Information Form

All families are encouraged to fill out the Digital Acceptable Use and Freedom of Information form for each of your children who attend Storrington.  To access the form, please visit: Digital Acceptable Use and Freedom of Information Form

Indigenous Education Month

The month of November is Indigenous Education Month.  During the month, we will be taking the time to learn and deepen our understanding of Indigenous history, cultures, and traditions. Throughout the month, staff will be implementing Indigenous teachings, lessons, and activities into their daily programming.  Our Stingers will also recognize Treaties Recognition Week from November 1st to November 5th.  The week is dedicated to honoring the importance of treaties and helps students to learn more about treaty rights and relationships.

Hot Lunch

This week, information was sent home with students regarding hot lunch ordering through the Lunchbox Program.  Our ordering window is now open and families can order for hot lunches for the week of November 8.  Families have until Sunday, November 7 at noon to order pizza for November 10 and pasta for November 12.

Lockdown Drill

On Friday, November 5, we will be holding our first lockdown drill.  The purpose of a lockdown drill is to prepare students, in the event that there is a threat within the school building.  As with fire drills and other safety programs, practicing lockdowns helps to familiarize students and teachers with a procedure that they will be able to follow quickly, effectively, and safely. Please take the time to discuss, with your child, the importance of emergency drills in keeping everyone safe.

Attendance and Reporting Your Child’s Absence

A child's regular attendance at school has a direct impact on their academic success and school readiness. It is important that students arrive on time and participate in all aspects of the instructional day.

If your child is going to be late or absent, there are three ways to report your child’s absence.

1)  Use your mobile device by downloading and installing the SchoolMessenger blue app or access it from the LDSB mobile app.

2)  Use the SafeArrival website at https://go.schoolmessenger.ca

3)  Call the toll-free number at 1-855-257-9349

Reporting Your Child’s Absence- COVID Related Absence

When reporting your child’s absence, there is a new absence code that should be used if the absence is COVID-related.  Please use the code, “COVID Related”, when:

-your child is sick with COVID-19 symptoms and are going for COVID testing

-your child is waiting for the results of the COVID test

-you have decided to self-isolate your child for 10 days

Importance of Daily Screening

A friendly reminder to our school community around the importance of screening your child every morning using the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool.

Prior to students attending school, please assess for the following Covid-19 related symptoms:

Fever and/or Chills

New or worsening cough

Barking cough

Shortness of breath

Decrease or loss of taste or smell

Digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain)

If a child displays one or more of these symptoms, the school will be contacting parents to come and pick up their child.  Your child and their siblings will have to go home and self-isolate until:

-they receive a negative Covid test result, or

-they receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional, or

-it has been 10 days since their symptom onset.
