Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all our Stingers are safe and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week

Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week is from November 22 to November 26.  It is a week dedicated to bringing awareness to bullying and reflecting on the steps to prevent bullying behavior.  Throughout the week, staff will be implementing anti-bullying and bullying awareness lessons and activities into their daily programming.  Our Stingers are also encouraged to wear a pink shirt for our LDSB Pink Shirt Day on Friday, November 26.  Together, let’s show our Stinger pride and stand up to bullying.

School Council Candle Fundraiser Pick-Up

The Scented Home orders will be available on Monday, November 22, from 6:00 to 7:00, for pick up.  A reminder that order pick up locations are at 4795 Latimer Road or 5539 Battersea Road, depending on the location you requested. If the location needs to be changed or has yet been decided, please send a message to Stephanie on Facebook or email [email protected]

We truly appreciate your continued support with our fundraising initiatives

Daily COVID Screener Confirmation

A reminder to students in Grades 7 and 8 around the importance of continuing to complete the Daily COVID Screener Confirmation.  The screener confirmation is emailed to students in Grades 7 to 8 every morning.  If you have any questions regarding the screener confirmation, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

End of Day Sign-Out

If you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, please make sure to let the school know either through your child’s agenda or by calling the office.  Any phone requests after 3:15, may not be accommodated as classes are usually in the process of end of day routines.

Indigenous Education Month

On Wednesday, November 24 and Thursday, November 25, we will be welcoming Rick Revelle to Storrington.  Rick is an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper and Canadian Indigenous author.  He has written many books including: Algonquin Legacy, Algonquin Spring, Algonquin Sunset and I Am Algonquin.  He will be sharing his experiences, stories and artefacts with all our Stingers.  We look forward to meeting and hearing from Rick as we continue to learn more about Indigenous cultures, traditions and customs.

Hot Lunch Orders

The online ordering is open to order for December 1 and December 3.  The ordering window for those dates will close on Sunday, November 28 at 12:00.

Reporting Your Child’s Absence- COVID Related Absence

When reporting your child’s absence, there is a new absence code that should be used if the absence is COVID-related.  Please use the code, “COVID Related”, when:

-your child is sick with COVID-19 symptoms and are going for COVID testing

-your child is waiting for the results of the COVID test

-you have decided to self-isolate your child for 10 days

Importance of Daily Screening

A friendly reminder to our school community around the importance of screening your child every morning using the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool.

Prior to students attending school, please assess for the following Covid-19 related symptoms:

Fever and/or Chills

New or worsening cough

Barking cough

Shortness of breath

Decrease or loss of taste or smell

Digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain)

If a child displays one or more of these symptoms, the school will be contacting parents to come and pick up their child.  Your child and their siblings will have to go home and self-isolate until:

-they receive a negative Covid test result, or

-they receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional, or

-it has been 10 days since their symptom onset.
