Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all our Stingers are safe and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Updated KFLA Public Health COVID Protocol

On Monday, November 22, KFLA Public Health revised their screening requirements related to symptoms, for school attendance. The rationale for these additional public health measures is to prevent cases in schools and avoid class cohorts’ dismissal. It is intended to enable more students to stay in school. The case and contact data demonstrate that the majority of our cases were symptomatic in school and their symptoms were predominantly rhinitis related (nasal congestion and runny nose).

It is important that students and staff stay home if they are sick or have any symptoms of illness and seek COVID-19 testing or assessment from their health care provider if needed.

Students should continue to follow the provincial screener, as it includes additional information related to travel, however it only includes the 5 most common symptoms of COVID-19. In KFL&A, we are asking students to also screen for symptoms on the extended symptom list included below, which is over and above those listed on the daily school screener.

Extended symptom list for student and staff screening in KFL&A region Symptoms listed on Provincial School Screener KFL&A Public Health Additional Symptoms List

- Fever (37.8°C/100°F) and/or chills

- Cough or barking cough

- Shortness of breath

- Decrease or loss of taste or smell

- Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea

- Fatigue

- Muscle aches and pain

- Sore throat

- Difficulty swallowing

- Runny or stuffy nose

- Abdominal pain

- Headache

- Conjunctivitis (pink eye)

- Decreased or lack of appetite

If a child displays one or more of these symptoms, the school will be contacting parents to come and pick up their child.  Your child and their siblings will have to go home and self-isolate until:

-they receive a negative Covid test result, or

-they receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional, or

-it has been 10 days since their symptom onset.

A friendly reminder around the importance of screening your child every morning using the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool.

Inclement Weather/Bus Cancellations

As we approach winter weather conditions, it is important to stay informed regarding possible bus delays or cancellations.  There are several ways parents can stay up-to-date with bus information:

-Using Twitter, parents can follow @BusDelayNCancel.

-Download the Triboard BusPlanner Delays app.

-Subscribe to Triboard through email.

-Receive daily information by visiting http://triboard.ca.

For more information regarding how you can access bus delay or cancellation notifications, please visit: https://triboard.ca/busdelays/.

Inclement Weather and Attendance Reporting

All parents/guardians are asked to report their student’s absence regardless of the reason including during bus cancellations. Sometimes, bused students find alternative ways to school and we want to ensure we know the whereabouts of every student to ensure their safety and well-being. Knowing who is supposed to be at school, will allow school office staff to best ensure all students are accounted for.

When reporting your child’s absence on inclement weather days, please select one of the following:

·   Bus Cancellation as the reason for absence if your student is bused

·   Inclement Weather as the reason for the absence if your student walks but chooses not to attend

If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, our SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence.
