Week at a Glance- October 26 to October 30

Week at a GlanceHello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all our Stingers are staying well and healthy.
Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Google Classrooms
In the event that we have to move to remote learning again, all classroom teachers have created a Google Classroom.  As well, if a student is away for an extended period of time, work will be posted in the Google Classroom, which can be accessed from home.  Please take the time to access your child’s Google Classroom using the login information provided by your child’s teacher.  If you have any issues logging in, please contact your child’s teacher for assistance.

Virtual Open House
Due to COVID-19, we have had to reflect on and adapt our practice to meet the current COVID-19 guidelines.  Many of the things that were past practice and important to our school community, such as our annual Corn Roast and Open House, are no longer allowed due to current guidelines and restrictions.  We understand the importance of these activities and will continue to reflect on how we can still provide these opportunities while ensuring all our Stingers stay safe and healthy.   Although we can’t have our open house, our Storrington staff have created a virtual open house for each of their classrooms.  Virtual open houses have been posted to each class’s Google Classroom.  To access your child’s virtual open house, please log into their Google Classroom.

Spirit Wear Orders
Thank you to all our Stingers who ordered spirit wear.  We will communicate with families once the order arrives and is ready for distribution.

Lockdown Drill
On Wednesday, October 28, we will be holding our first lockdown drill.  The purpose of a lockdown drill is to prepare students, in the event that there is a threat within the school building.  As with fire drills and other safety programs, practicing lockdowns help to prepare students and teachers for a procedure that they will be able to follow quickly, effectively, and safely. Please take the time to discuss, with your child, the importance of emergency drills in keeping everyone safe.

Indigenous Education Month
The month of November is Indigenous Education Month.  During the month, we will be taking the time to learn and deepen our understanding of Indigenous history, cultures and traditions.

Black and Orange Day
A reminder that we are encouraging all our Stingers to wear black and orange on Friday, October 30.  We kindly ask that students do not wear their Halloween costumes or bring in their costume accessories.

New Opt-In/Opt-Out Dates
A reminder that elementary families who wish to move students from in-person to remote learning OR remote learning to in-person learning, must provide notice by October 29, 2020 at 3:00 PM. To do this, families must contact their student’s home school. Once numbers are known, staffing will be arranged with class start-up scheduled for the week of November 9, 2020.

Covid-19 Screening Protocols and Family Reference Guide
Please take the time to complete the COVID-19 School Screening Tool, each morning, prior to your child attending school. If your child is feeling unwell, they must remain at home and depending on symptoms, may require a COVID-19 assessment.
The online COVID-19 School Screening Tool is linked off the Board and all school websites and is available at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
