Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend!

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Storrington Character Recognition

During our Stinger Spirit/Recognition Assembly, we introduced our students to our Stinger Character Traits. Last year, we surveyed our students, ‘What Makes a Stinger?’.  Their responses aligned with the Seven Grandfather Teachings - Humility, Honesty, Truth, Love, Wisdom, Bravery and Respect.  These traits will be our focus going forward as students will be recognized when they show any of these traits.  When they do, they will be given a marble which they will put into a classroom container.  At the end of the month, all the classroom containers will be collected and the marbles will be counted and placed into a larger container.  This container will be on display in the front hallway for all our Stingers to see how many ‘Acts of Amazing’ we’ve achieved for the school year.  We will also take the time at our Stinger Spirit/Recognition Assembly to recognize and celebrate all the ‘Acts of Amazing’.  As well, we will take the time at each of our assemblies to recognize individual students who continuously show Humility, Honesty, Truth, Love, Wisdom, Bravery and Respect.  Students who are recognized will receive a certificate to further celebrate their accomplishments.

International Week of Deaf People

During the week of September 19 to September 23, our Storrington Stingers  will recognize the International Week of Deaf People.  The theme for this year’s International Week of Deaf People is Building Inclusive Communities for All.  On Friday, September 23, we will recognize the International Day of Sign Languages.  This year’s theme is Sign Language Unites us All.

This week, lessons and activities will be dedicated to recognizing and bringing awareness about the Deaf community and to promote the human rights of Deaf people.

Staffing News

With the beginning of the school year and the board’s staffing process, changes to school staff sometimes occur.  Unfortunately, as a result of the staffing process, we have some staff who are leaving Storrington.

Please join me in wishing Ms. Manosi Saha (Planning Time teacher) and Mr. Matthew Saunders (Core French teacher) all the best in their new roles.  We have really enjoyed working and learning with them and we know that they will continue to do an amazing job supporting students.  During the next couple of weeks, we will be filling their positions through the hiring process.

Data Verification Forms

A friendly reminder that if you have not returned your child’s data verification form, please complete and return it as soon as possible.

Updates to Provincial Self-Screening Tool and Guidelines

As you may know, the Ministry of Health and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health has announced updates to the School and Child Care Screening Tool and Management of Cases and Contacts of COVID-19. The following is a summary of the updated guidelines:

-Students and visitors need to continue to self-screen each day, prior to school.

-Students and staff should stay home when sick. Anyone who is feeling sick or has any new or worsening symptoms of illness (including COVID-19 symptoms) should stay home, until:

-their symptoms have been improving for at least 24 hours (or 48 hours for nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea), and

-they do not have a fever, and

-they do not develop any additional symptoms.

-For a total of 10 days after the start any illness symptom, students and staff should continue to wear a well-fitted mask in all public settings (including schools and childcare, unless under two years old) and avoid non-essential activities where mask removal is necessary.

-Asymptomatic individuals with a positive COVID-19 test result do not need to stay home unless symptoms develop. If any symptoms develop, they should stay home and follow the recommended guidelines above.
