Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We continue to be amazed by our Stingers and how easily they have transitioned back to school expectations and protocols.  All our Stingers are doing an amazing job with wearing their masks, staying physically distanced, and following our handwashing/hand sanitizing routines.  We want to thank them for their diligence in keeping themselves and their peers safe and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Staffing News

With the beginning of the school year and the board’s staffing process, changes to school staff sometimes occur.  Unfortunately, as a result of the staffing process, we have some staff who are leaving Storrington.

Please join me in wishing Ms. Lindsey Brooks, Ms. Alexandra Boese and Ms. Natalie Brock all the best in their new roles.  We have really enjoyed working and learning with them and we know that they will continue to do an amazing job supporting students.  During the next couple of weeks, we will be filling their positions through the hiring process.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Cayla Gordon to the Storrington Stinger staff.  Ms. Gordon was the successful candidate for our Office Administrator position.  She comes with lots of experience from her time as the Assistant Office Administrator at the Kingston East Elementary School.  Ms. Gordon’s first day with us is on Monday, September 20.

Data Verification Forms

A friendly reminder that if you have not returned your child’s data verification form, please complete and return it as soon as possible.

International Week of Deaf People

During the week of September 20 to September 24, our Storrington Stingers  will recognize the International Week of Deaf People.  Lessons and activities, this week, will be dedicated to recognizing and bringing awareness about the Deaf community and to promote the human rights of Deaf people.

Late Buses

Due to construction on Highway 15, many of our buses are late to pick up students in the morning or are late getting to school to pick up students at the end of the day.  If your child’s bus is late, please visit www.triboard.ca and click on Delays and Cancellations to check on the status of your child’s bus.

Storrington Stinger Spirit Day

Thank you to all our Stingers who wore their Storrington spirit wear and/or Storrington colours.  We had lots of students participate and show their Stinger pride.  Great job Stingers!

Storrington Picture Day

Our Storrington Picture Day has been scheduled for Thursday, September 23. Our school photographers, Lifetouch School Photography, will be adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.  Picture retakes have been scheduled for Wednesday, October 27.

Reporting Your Child’s Absence- COVID Related Absence

When reporting your child’s absence, there is a new absence code that should be used if the absence is COVID-related.  Please use the code, “COVID Related”, when:

-your child is sick with COVID 19 symptoms and are going for COVID testing

-your child is waiting for the results of the COVID test

-you have decided to self-isolate your child for 14 days

Importance of Daily Screening

A friendly reminder to our school community around the importance of screening your child every morning using the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool.

Prior to students attending school, please assess for the following Covid-19 related symptoms:

Fever and/or Chills

New or worsening cough

Barking cough

Shortness of breath

Decrease or loss of taste or smell

Digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain)

If a child displays one or more of these symptoms, the school will be contacting parents to come and pick up their child.  Your child and their siblings will have to go home and self-isolate until:

-they receive a negative Covid test result, or

-they receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional, or

-it has been 10 days since their symptom onset.

News from our Parent Council for the 2021-2022 School Year

A reminder that if you’re interested in participating on our school council, we will be having our first parent council meeting on Wednesday, Sept 29th at 6:30 pm, in the school parking lot.

We will be holding elections, so if you are interested in running for a  position, please submit your nomination to Brittany Smith at [email protected]

If you are planning on attending our meeting on September 29th, please remember to wear a mask, to stay socially distanced and to bring a lawn chair.
