Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all our Stingers are staying well and healthy.

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Orange Shirt Day- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On Thursday, September 30, our Storrington Stingers will recognize Orange Shirt Day.  Orange Shirt Day is a day to take action towards Truth and Reconciliation and to honour residential school survivors and their families.  It is also a day to remember and honour those Indigenous students who did not return from residential schools.

We encourage all students to wear an orange shirt on Thursday.  As a school, we will be recognizing the importance of the day and learning more about the impact of the residential school system on Indigenous communities through our morning announcements and class discussions and activities.

Terry Fox Run

This year, our Storrington Stingers are proud and excited to participate in the Terry Fox School Run on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Last year our school raised $335.55 bringing our donation total to almost $5500. Help us continue the tradition by showing your support. This year, our goal is for every student and staff to donate one toonie. Students can bring in a toonie or you can donate online at: Storrington Public School Terry Fox Run

Thank you for supporting our school in the fight against cancer and keeping Terry’s dream alive! #terryfoxschoolrun

PA Day- Friday, October 1

A reminder that Friday, October 1 is a PA day.  There is no school for students on Friday.

Storrington Spirit Wear

On Monday, September 27th, students will receive a spirit wear order form.  Students will have the opportunity to purchase school clothing, water bottles, pencils and many more items.  We ask that order forms are completed and handed in by Friday, October 22nd to ensure that clothing is delivered before the Christmas holidays.

Equipment/Items from Home

Due to COVID restrictions and guidelines, we ask that students do not bring their own sports equipment (basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs) or toys to school.  All classes have outdoor activity bins that are filled with outdoor sports equipment and are wiped and disinfected on a daily basis.

Outdoor Clothing

Due to our current COVID guidelines and expectations, we are trying to get our Stingers outside, as much as possible.  This is an opportunity for our Stingers to take off their masks and get some fresh air.  It is important that our Stingers come to school with the proper outdoor clothing suitable for various weather conditions (rain and snow).

Reporting Your Child’s Absence- COVID Related Absence

When reporting your child’s absence, there is a new absence code that should be used if the absence is COVID-related.  Please use the code, “COVID Related”, when:

-your child is sick with COVID 19 symptoms and are going for COVID testing

-your child is waiting for the results of the COVID test

-you have decided to self-isolate your child for 14 days

Importance of Daily Screening

A friendly reminder to our school community around the importance of screening your child every morning using the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool.

Prior to students attending school, please assess for the following Covid-19 related symptoms:

Fever and/or Chills

New or worsening cough

Barking cough

Shortness of breath

Decrease or loss of taste or smell

Digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain)

If a child displays one or more of these symptoms, the school will be contacting parents to come and pick up their child.  Your child and their siblings will have to go home and self-isolate until:

-they receive a negative Covid test result, or

-they receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional, or

-it has been 10 days since their symptom onset.
