Hello Storrington Families!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! Week Two flew by! While it was another short week, it was filled with meaningful learning, connection, and lots of positive energy. Seeing our classroom communities continue to grow and build on the momentum of these first few weeks fills me with great pride! It’s wonderful to see our students and staff settling into routines, building relationships, and creating such positive learning environments together!
At this time of year, LDSB reviews enrollment across the district to confirm classroom organizations. I’m very happy to share that our September enrollment is right in line with projections, which means no classroom reorganization is needed! Our current classroom organization will remain unchanged, and students will remain with their current classroom teachers. This is wonderful news for our school community!

STUDENT ACTIVITIES:
Next week we will have our first meeting for our new Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Club! The JEDI club welcomes Junior and Intermediate students who want to make a difference and bring awareness to the important issues of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion to make ALL people feel welcomed and respected. The JEDI club will be supported by staff members to facilitate, but shaped and driven by the ideas and initiative of students! All Grade 4-8 students who want to work together to support a positive student climate are welcome to join!
Sports are already up and running with many Stinger athletes joining soccer and cross country practices this week. Our student athletes are reminded to listen attentively to the morning announcements for information about upcoming practices!

Our Scholastic Book Fair will run the week of Sept 21-25! We are looking for volunteers to support this event throughout the week. TERRY FOX FUNDRAISER & EVENT:
Our Terry Fox Walk, Run, & Roll will take place on September 28th at 2pm on our school track. (In the event of extreme weather, the event will be moved to Tues Sept 29). We are looking forward to coming together as a school community to honour Terry's legacy and support such an important cause.

It's that time of year - parents/caregivers! School Advisory Council (SAC) elections for Executive Positions are coming up very soon! The first SAC Council Meeting of the 2026-2027 school year (and Elections!) will take place on Thursday Sept. 24, 2026 at 6:30pm. We will begin with council elections followed by our first SAC meeting of the school year.
Please use the link below to submit nominations or drop by the school to pick up a hard-copy nomination form. Nominations are anonymous and you can nominate yourself or someone else for a position. If you are nominating someone, please ensure they are up for the position and have agreed to your nomination. The person you nominate must be available to be present at the meeting. Positions for election are:
Chair/Co-Chair: Represents, works with and provides support to all school community and council committee chairs. This person works closely with the school Principal/Vice-Principal, school staff, and parents to enrich the education of all students. Additionally, they preside over and conduct monthly council meetings, set agendas and schedule meetings (in consultation with the VP/Principal). The chair promotes discussion amongst council members and the community, receives and reports on correspondence sent and received by council. Acts as coordinator between the school board and council. Receives documentation from board and keeps council advised of board decisions, activities etc. Supports programs, initiatives and activities led by other council members and contributes to the monthly council newsletter.
Vice Chair: Presides at meetings in the absence of the chair or upon the incumbent’s inability to serve. Responsible for overseeing all sponsored events and programs.
Treasurer: Works with the council and coordinators in developing an operating budget, keeps a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures and serves as the liaison with the Board of Education. Additional responsibilities include depositing/disbursing funds on behalf of the council, the preparation of monthly financial statements, and the preparation & filing of all necessary financial reports.
Secretary: Attends scheduled council meetings, records, maintains and distributes minutes of meetings, keeps non-financial records of council.
Fundraising Coordinator: Plans, manages fundraising activities of council. Works closely with the treasurer.
Event Co-Ordinator: Plans, manages events of council. Works closely with the treasurer.
Volunteer Co-Ordinator: Plans, manages volunteer opportunities of council.
Inclusive Education Co-Ordinator: Helps ensure that school programs, policies, and community events welcome and support students of all backgrounds, abilities, and identities. Act as a bridge between families and the school to champion equity and accessibility.
Indigenous Representative: An Indigenous parent/guardian/grandparent of an Indigenous student; to provide a voice for Indigenous students and ways of knowing.
PIC (Parent Involvement Committee) Representative: PIC is an important advisory group that connects parents with their school board’s Chief Executive Officer and trustees. Attends monthly meetings at the Board Office alongside other PIC representatives and reports back to SAC members.
Member-At-Large: Attends meetings and participates in many aspects of council activities, as prescribed by council. Voting member.

CPICS FOR VOLUNTEERS:
For the safety of our students and school community, all volunteers are required to have a recent vulnerable sector police check completed within 6 months of their volunteer start date. Existing CPICs are valid for at least 3 years. To help make the process easier, we will provide prospective volunteers with a letter to take to the police detachment that serves the area where they live. The letter must be completed by a school representative before you take it to the police. Once you receive your completed police record check, please upload it to the LDSB Police Record Check Portal. Human Resources will review the record check and will contact you if any additional information or follow-up is required. Storrington Public School - General Information
Main Office
Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:15 am - 4:15 pm. Ms. Brown is our wonderful office administrator. Families can email us at storr@limestone.on.ca or call 613-358-2868. Emails and phone messages will be answered within 48 hours. For immediate assistance, please call back and to speak to someone. Storrington Public School is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. Harassment, discrimination, violence, or abuse towards staff will not be tolerated. Please review the LDSB Code of Conduct below for additional information!
Arrival & Dismissal
School arrival and morning supervision begins at 8:50am daily and school dismissal is at 3:35pm. Families who need to pick up their student from school before dismissal because of an appointment or illness, feel free to give the school a call to let Ms. Brown know you're on your way and she can have your child ready for pick up at the main office - please refrain from going to your child's classroom. Please note - families arriving and requesting pick up after 3:15, will be asked to wait until dismissal at 3:35pm. Please note that the end of day is a very busy time as all staff need to ensure students are dismissed safely and our buses are loaded for on-time departure!
Data Verification Forms & Computer Use Agreement
Hard copies of Data Verification Forms will be sent this week to ensure we have the most up to date information in our Aspen database and we require families to sign off on our Computer Use Agreement in order for their students to access technology. If your contact information has changed, please provide us with an update via phone or email as soon as possible! Thank you!
Lunchbox Lunch Program
We will be using Lunchbox for our Lunch Program for efficiency of ordering and delivering. The Lunchbox Program sends out a messages to families with details about when ordering is available. Please note, families are not obligated to order as this is simply an option for student lunches. (Please note, the Lunchbox program manages the ordering and contact with vendors. Lunches arrive to the school labeled with student names and are distributed accordingly.)
Food Share Program
We will be offering the Food Share Program to all of our classes. All students can access this program. Please reach out if your student has dietary restrictions.
School Supplies and Labelling
Our school will provide the necessary supplies that your student will need for learning. Here are a few things that will certainly help students be prepared for learning each school day:
- Backpack
- Labelled water bottle
- Lunch bag with a peanut-free/nut-free lunch and snacks for two nutrition breaks (one in the morning and one in the afternoon)
- Personal pencil case (optional) to hold any supplies you may want to bring (pencils, erasers, scissors, ruler, pencil crayons, etc.)
- Indoor shoes (with non-marking soles) to be left at school
- Extra clothes (for our Kindergarten/primary particularly)
To avoid your student's clothing ending up in the lost and found, please consider labelling items, such as indoor and outdoor clothing, indoor and outdoor shoes, containers, school supplies, etc. Labeled items helps school staff reunite items to students when they have been lost, misplaced, or left behind!
Please check the weather in the morning for appropriate dress for the day. Students will go outside in all weather, with the exception of heavy rain, thunder/lightning, or extremely low temperatures.
School Messenger: Reporting Your Child's Absences
Storrington PS uses School Messenger to help communicate need-to-know information to families in a timely and efficient way via text, voice message, or email. Families can access school messenger on a laptop, iPad or mobile phone. Most families find it very useful to download the School Messenger App.
Storrington PS also uses School Messenger to share out our weekly newsletter which contains extensive school information with families via text, phone, or email message. Our school will also use this tool for urgent items like event cancellations or school emergencies about school council meetings, or special events.
Registered parents/guardians will receive these messages through contact information that is collected in our student information system. This information is exchanged via a secure connection between the school board and SchoolMessenger. This is the same system that also allows parents/guardians to report their student’s absence in advance, or report back to the school regarding an unexplained absence.
Parents/guardians may choose how to receive these alerts by text message, email or phone call with the exception of emergency events or attendance calls which will always be communicated via all contact methods on file with the school.
It is important that parents/guardians ensure schools have the most up-to-date contact information at the beginning of the school year. If your contact information changes during the school year, parents/guardians are asked to contact the school with the updated information.
