Dear Stinger Families,

We have a busy week next week! Here’s what you need to know!

Terry Fox Event

We will be walking/running/moving for Terry on Thursday, September 25th, at 2:00 pm. Families are invited to join their student(s). Please reach out to your student’s teacher if you will be joining us! Teachers will share important information about where to meet them!

Our Terry Fox Kick-off assembly will take place on Friday! Students will learn about Terry Fox and about how we can continue his legacy and important work.

Our school goal is to raise $1000 for the Terry Fox Foundation! If you wish to donate, students can bring donations to school next week. If you prefer, you can make donations online here:  https://schools.terryfox.ca/StorringtonPSBattersea

Please encourage your friends and family to donate as well! It will take the entire community to meet our goal! If (when!) we meet our fundraising goal, we will celebrate during the week of September 29th. There will be an epic dance party, and we have one more plan up our sleeves!

Hot Lunches

Our hot lunch ordering platform is now live, and orders can be placed. Please see the "how to order" instructions below, which were also sent home on paper on Monday.

Open House and Corn Roast

We hope you can join us on Thursday, Sept 25, 4:30-5:30 pm, for our Open House. Families will have an opportunity to tour the school, visit classrooms, and meet the staff!

Thanks to Mr. Ken Sands, we have corn for our annual Corn Roast, 5:30-6:30 pm, which follows the Open House on Thursday, September 25th! We hope you can join us! Families are invited to bring food to accompany the corn. Please bring your shareable dish to the gym when you arrive for the Open House.

You are welcome to bring whatever you would like to share, but as a guideline, we are asking for the following:

  • If your student’s classroom is located on the 1st floor, please bring a dessert item or buns.
  • If your student’s classroom is located on the 2nd floor, please bring a savoury side dish.

***All families are asked to bring their own plates, cutlery, and water bottles. We will not have extras to provide.

We do have students with food allergies at Storrington (ex: sesame seeds). An ingredient list to be displayed with your dish would be appreciated.

School Council

It's that time of year! School Advisory Council (Parent Council) elections for Executive Positions are coming up very soon! The first Parent Council Meeting of the 2025-2026 school year is on Thursday, September 25th, at 6:30 pm in the library.

Everyone who is part of our Storrington family is welcome to attend any of our meetings this year. Future meeting dates will be shared after our September 25th meeting.

We look forward to hearing your voice and feedback!

*You do not need to run for an elected position to attend School Council meetings.

Please use this link to submit nominations: https://forms.gle/2iJcdgMsUXftPtTi9. Nominations are anonymous, and you can nominate yourself or someone else for a position or multiple positions, though you can only hold one position at a time. If you are nominating someone, please ensure they are up for the position and have agreed to your nomination. The person you nominate must be present at the meeting. Your nomination does not count as a vote; you must be present to vote. Nominations are due by 12:00noon on Thursday, September 25th.

Positions for election are:

Represents, works with and provides support to all school community and council committee chairs. This person works closely with the school principal, school staff, and parents to enrich the education of all students. Additionally, they preside over and conduct monthly council meetings, set agendas, and schedule meetings (in consultation with the Principal). The chair promotes discussion amongst council members and the community, receives and reports on correspondence sent and received by the council. Acts as coordinator between the school board and council. Receives documentation from the board and keeps the council advised of board decisions, activities, etc. Supports programs, initiatives, and activities led by other council members and contributes to the monthly council newsletter.

Vice Chair/Co-chair

Treasurer

Works with the council and coordinators in developing an operating budget, keeps a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures, and serves as the liaison with the Board of Education. Additional responsibilities include depositing/disbursing funds on behalf of the council, preparing monthly financial statements, and preparing and filing all necessary financial reports.

Secretary

Attends scheduled council meetings, records, maintains, and distributes minutes of meetings, and keeps non-financial records of the council.

Indigenous Representative

This is a newer position with the SAC and will evolve and grow organically. The Indigenous Representative is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting Indigenous students and families, as well as ensuring culturally responsive practices across schools.

Member at Large (Divisional reps)

Attends meetings and participates in many aspects of council activities, as prescribed by the council. Voting member. Kindergarten/Primary, Junior, and Intermediate positions are available.

Fundraising Coordinator

Plans and manages fundraising activities of the council. Works closely with the treasurer.

Book Fair

Our Book Fair is next week! Students will have a chance to browse and make purchases during the school day. The Book Fair will also be open to families to browse and purchase books after school on Tuesday, as well as during the Open House and Corn Roast. Students will be bringing home pamphlets that highlight some of the books that will be available for sale. Storrington staff are very thankful to the School Council for organizing and leading the book fair. All purchases will help us earn money that can be used to purchase books or other important and helpful items for our school. Thank you in advance for your support!
