Stinger Family Update – October 6-10
Happy Monday!
It was wonderful to see Storrington families at the Battersea Pumpkin Festival on Saturday! It was a beautiful day for tractor rides, pumpkin carving, cookie decorating, and buying drinks from our amazing volunteers! Thank you to the team of parent volunteers for helping fundraise for our school. We even had a few students join us! Special thanks to Devin Tillaart for getting there early and setting up the tent, table, coffee, and coolers.
Tomorrow afternoon, we will celebrate meeting – and surpassing – our $1000.00 fundraising goal for the Terry Fox Foundation. We will start with a quick assembly, get outside for a dance party, and end the celebrations by throwing pies at Mme Dannenberg, Ms. Wellwood, and Mr. Pare!
We were supposed to have our 3rd fire drill practice today with the support of the local Fire Department. Unfortunately, they were busy fighting a fire. We will reschedule with them as soon as possible. Next week, we will practice a lockdown drill, as well as a hold and secure, and a shelter in place. More information will be shared so you can talk about each of these at home as well. Teachers will also prepare their students with age-appropriate discussions.
We hope all families enjoy their Thanksgiving weekend. A gentle reminder that Friday is a PA Day for staff. The school is closed to students.
Guest/Occasional Teachers at Storrington
At Storrington, we are fortunate to welcome many dedicated Occasional Teachers who step in when our regular teachers are away. These educators arrive ready to follow the lesson plans provided and adapt to new classrooms every day. They bring valuable experience in classroom management and are always willing to support our students while working closely with school staff. Their role is not easy, but their commitment makes a big difference in our school community.
We expect all students at Storrington to treat Occasional Teachers with respect and kindness, just as they would any adult in our building. It is important for students to continue following school rules, learning routines, seating plans, and guidelines around technology use—even when their regular teacher is away. By doing so, we help create a welcoming environment where learning can continue smoothly for everyone.
Family Conversation Starters
· Ask your child how they can help an Occasional Teacher feel welcome in their classroom. For example: “What could you do to help a new teacher feel comfortable at Storrington?”
· Talk together about the importance of following classroom routines and rules, even when someone else is teaching. Try asking: “Why do you think it’s important to help Occasional Teachers by following our usual classroom routines?”
· Discuss ways to show kindness and respect, such as offering a friendly greeting or helping a guest teacher find supplies.
Respectful and kind behaviour makes Storrington a safer, more supportive place for everyone—students and teachers alike. When we work together to show care for all members of our school community, we help everyone feel valued and included. This not only supports learning but also builds the strong sense of pride we share as a Storrington community.
Thank you for speaking with your student(s) about these important topics and supporting our school’s positive spirit. If you ever have questions or concerns, please reach out. We want everyone who spends time at Storrington to leave knowing how amazing our students are!
Cross Country Team
Our Cross Country Team will be competing at Fort Henry next week, on October 14. If you have not done so, please go to School Day to sign the forms and make payment. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Freeland – freelandam@limestone.on.ca
A huge thank you to Ms. Freeland for coaching all our runners! If you have time this weekend, it would be a great idea to go for a run with friends or family!
Morning Drop Off Routines
If you drop your student(s) off in front of the school in the morning before the entry bell, please ask them to walk behind the school (south side) to get to their doors/yard area (north). We want to ensure anyone walking is well away from the buses that are arriving and unloading students. Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of all students.
