Happy Monday, Storrington Stinger Families! Though last week was a short school week, it was busy! Students were busy connecting and re-connecting with friends and staff. Many educators started to collect data via math and literacy screeners. I also know that many students had the opportunity to share about themselves and what happened over the summer months. We did come together on Friday for an assembly. At the assemblies (one was geared toward our younger students and the second was planned for our older students), students had the opportunity to meet staff, review bus/recess/nutrition break expectations, and learn more about what Mrs. Wellwood has in common with staff and students at Storrington. If you have a moment, ask your student one of the questions she asked! Your student should also be able to tell you about bus and recess expectations, which we will continue to review at school. Both assemblies ended in a body break and high fives as they exited the gym. The assemblies were very successful! It was so great to see our classrooms and school yard full of laughter and learning
As you know, each September, schools submit enrollment information, and the central staffing committee of the LDSB makes determinations about class sizes at each site. We have had fewer enrollments at our school than projected in the spring, and therefore, we are required to reorganize. It will be necessary to move some students to other classrooms and reassign some staff. We are required to make these changes to comply with the Ministry of Education’s staffing regulations/guidelines. Here is the approved organization for Storrington:
JK/SK (Freeland/Griffin)
Grade 1 (Kuhnke)
Grade 1/2 (Coleman)
Grade 2/3 (Ridout)
Grade 4/5 (Roberts)
Grade 5/6 (Pare)
Grade 6/7/8 (Freeland)
Storrington staff worked very hard in the spring to create class lists while considering several factors, and we have taken these factors into account again as we prepared new class lists. We thank you for trusting our educators during this process.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, September 9), emails will be sent to families who have a student or students who will be changing classes. You will hear from the school by 1:00 pm if your student is changing classes. We will answer any questions students and families have on Wednesday and Thursday. Students will have an opportunity to visit their new classrooms on Friday afternoon. As students start in their new rooms on September 15th, we will work together to ensure a smooth transition for all, while continuing to provide rich learning experiences in warm, inviting classrooms. Staff will engage in age-appropriate discussions this week to help prepare and support students with re-organization – making space for any connected emotions, discussing the mindset we bring to new situations, looking for the opportunity that change can bring, etc. Your child will follow your lead in many ways, and it is essential, as the adults in their lives, that we model how to approach change with a growth mindset and embrace the opportunities that it may present. Our staff have put much care and consideration into student placements. Our goal is the same – supporting the achievement and well-being of every student.
We appreciate your ongoing support and understanding.
As you likely noticed with the classroom organization above, Ms. Emily Crawford will be moving to a new position within the Board, to be confirmed later this week. We wish Ms. Crawford the best of luck in her next step as an educator, and she knows that she will always be a Storrington Stinger!

Open House
We are still trying to secure the corn, but we plan on continuing the tradition of combining the Open House with a corn roast! Staff will meet on September 16th to discuss event details, so more information will be shared on September 17th with families. Stay tuned! At this time, the timing for the afternoon/evening is as follows:
4:30-5:30 pm – Open House
5:30-6:30 pm – Corn Roast
6:30 pm – School Council meeting (details below)
Apples
We have a crab apple tree in our primary yard area. It is recommended that students leave the apples on the ground as they attract bees and wasps. Please discuss the dangers of throwing apples at vehicles driving past the school. It is also recommended that do not eat the apples as they aren’t cared for and could contain worms or other pests. Thank you for your help with this.
