Family Update – January 9-12, 2026
Happy Monday, Stinger Families!
We have a busy week ahead in the hive! We have both our Math Facilitator and Learning Partner here, as well as a School Council meeting on Thursday.
School Council is looking for families to help them at a fundraiser on Friday evening – details are below.
We are also to host a January assembly to remind all students about recess expectations and safety. At this assembly, we will also recognize outstanding student attendance and winners from the Legion’s Remembrance Day contest!
School Council
Our January School Council meeting will take place this Thursday, January 15, from 6-7:30 pm in the library (2nd floor). If you would like to join us virtually, please use this link:
We will have childcare available in a classroom on the 2nd floor. The gym will not be available.
This Friday
School Council is also looking for volunteers to help run the canteen at the Battersea Community Dance on Friday, January 16, approximately 6:00-9:00 pm. It is a fundraiser for the school. If you are interested or want to know more, please contact our School Council directly at pc.storrington@gmail.com.
Tips for Staying Well
Self-care doesn’t have to cost money or be extravagant! There are many small habits that are good practices for our mental health. Below are some tips to help promote good mental health.

Benefits of Learning a Second Language
(Excerpt from https://www.dcp.edu.gov.on.ca/en/curriculum/elementary-fsl/grades/core-g4/context/importance)
Knowledge of an additional language strengthens first-language skills. The ability to speak two or more languages generally enhances cognitive development, as well as reasoning and creative-thinking skills. It also enhances the student’s confidence as a learner, facilitates the learning of additional languages, and contributes to academic achievement. As their strengths develop, French language learners become more flexible and adaptable in new and unforeseen situations. For example, second-language learners tend to be more divergent thinkers, with improved memory and attention span.
Positive outcomes for students in the FSL curriculum include:
- increased mental flexibility;
- improved problem-solving skills;
- a better understanding of aspects of a variety of cultures;
- a greater awareness of global issues, including those related to the environment and sustainability;
- expanded career opportunities.
Math – Find Out What Students Learn Grade by Grade
https://www.ontario.ca/page/math-curriculum-grades-1-8#section-4
“Key concepts and skills like addition, subtraction, division and multiplication are foundational for more advanced skills like working with decimals, data and integers. Areas like coding, mathematical modelling and financial literacy help students learn additional skills that are important in the world today.
Throughout the grades, students will develop the tools and confidence to approach math positively, enjoy and appreciate mathematics as well as overcome any anxiety they may experience.”
Presentation by Officer Martell, OPP
Officer Martell, our school’s Community Officer, will be coming to present to our Grade 5/6 and 6/7/8 classes on January 27, in the morning. A letter with more information will be sent home with students in those classes.
Kindergarten Registration – 2026-2027
It’s that time of year! Families who have a child born in 2022 can register them for year 1 (JK) of LDSB’s Full Day Kindergarten Program. A child born in 2021 would register for year 2 (SK) of the program. Please share this information widely: https://www.limestone.on.ca/kindergarten
To find the name and location of your in-boundary or home school, enter the student’s home address into Tri-Board's Locate A School tool.
Our Kindergarten team is exceptional – Storrington is a great place to learn and play!
