Happy Monday, Stinger Families!

Boo Bash is coming! Order forms were sent home on Friday with students!

Cross Country Runners

We have a small but mighty group of runners headed to Fort Henry on Wednesday this week! We wish them the best of luck! The weather report looks different this week. Fort Henry is notoriously cold and windy. Please ensure you send your runner with layers to keep them warm.

**Forms to complete are in School Day.

 Picture Day

Picture Day is Monday, October 27! Please mark your calendars and spread the word! I will send a reminder next Sunday as well.

Mental Health Ontario Resources

One of our School Achievement Plan goals is to increase the number of students who report awareness of mental health supports and services in order to seek supports for mental health. One of the strategies to meet this goal is to share resources with families.

To start things off, I would like to highlight School Mental Health Ontario. This is an excellent resource that has a dedicated section for parents and caregivers. The first topic is Understanding Mental Health. I encourage you to browse the section and learn about what mental health is, how to notice mental health difficulties for your child, and there is also information about stigma.

“Everyone has mental health. Mental health refers to how we feel, think and act. Positive mental health allows us to enjoy life, manage stress and cope with challenges. Just like our physical health, learning about it, understanding it, and taking care of it is important.”

School Council Meeting – Oct 23

Our 2nd School Council Meeting will take place on Thursday, October 23rd at 6:00 pm. All are welcome! We are still trying to fill a couple positions – Indigenous Representative and Secretary. You do not need to hold a position to attend School Council meetings. We hope to see you there!

The virtual link to the meeting is shared below. It will be shared again with families on October 23.

Babysitter Needed

We are seeking babysitters interested in volunteering during our monthly School Council meetings. Volunteers will supervise Storrington students or younger siblings who need care in a classroom. Interested individuals must have completed the Babysitting Course and can earn volunteer hours. Please email our School Council Chairs directly about this – pc.storrington@gmail.com

Literacy and Mathematics @ Home

If you are looking for a resource to support your child’s learning at home that aligns with the Ontario Curriculum, we suggest you use the following website: https://tvolearn.com/

You can click on the Activities tab at the top of your screen or scroll down the page to select a grade. The tasks are engaging and created by Ontario educators.

If you have questions about how to support your child’s literacy and math skills at home, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly.

IEPs

An individual education plan (IEP) is a written plan that describes special education programs, accommodations and services that a school board will provide for a student. Not every student needs an IEP.

Term 1 IEPs were sent home with students who have an IEP on Thursday, October 16. The IEP is a legal, “live” document that can be changed at any time. If you have any questions about your child’s IEP, please reach out to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. It’s recommended that you set a time to meet/speak with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress so far this year. Thank you for your support.
