Stinger Family Update – September 29-October 3, 2025

Happy Monday!

We would like to thank our families for attending our Open House and Corn Roast/Potluck on Thursday evening. It was wonderful to see so many families exploring classrooms and reconnecting with other families as we begin this school year! We also want to thank you for all your delicious potluck donations! A big thank you to Ken Sands for the corn!

Our first School Council meeting was well attended! About 15 family members attended the meeting where we discussed reorganization, Boo Bash, and how we can improve our school facilities. If you would like to be part of the conversation, please be sure to join us at our next meeting. More information will be shared soon! We will look to fill vacant positions at the next meeting. If you are interested in volunteering for one of our vacant positions, please attend the next meeting in October. *You do not need to hold a position to attend School Council meetings.

This Saturday, our School Council volunteers, as well as some intermediate student volunteers, will be at Battersea’s Pumpkin Fest! We will be selling drinks as a fundraiser for the school. We hope to see you there! https://batterseapumpkinfestival.com/ It’s fall fun for the whole family! Congratulations to Zak in Grade 8 – he created the selected design for the admission stickers this year! What a huge accomplishment!

Volunteers also made the Book Fair possible – and a huge success! Students enjoyed browsing and buying books! A portion of all sales goes back to the school in the form of new books and resources for our library. We will share how much we raised as soon as we hear back from Scholastic!

Finally, we DID reach our Terry Fox fundraising goal! We raised over $1300.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation! Thank you to all families for encouraging students to bring change from their piggy banks and for making larger donations – both in-person and online. This week, staff will finalize the celebrations – an epic dance party as well as pies to be thrown! I will send more information about this later this week. It was lovely to see students learning about Terry Fox and setting goals to "be like Terry" - courageous and persevering.

IEPs

IEPs will be sent home on October 16th. This year, we are using new software to write them. You will be receiving communication from your student’s teacher if a modified program may be needed. You are a crucial part of the consultation process. We want to ensure families understand that a modified program is intended to fill gaps in knowledge and understanding, not be a long-term solution. The goal is to find the accommodations needed so your student can access the curriculum at their grade level. If you have questions about your student’s IEP, please reach out to your student’s teacher.

Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Tomorrow, all Storrington students and staff are encouraged to wear orange as we remember and honour the children who attended residential schools and never returned home, as well as the Survivors and their families. We will be doing school-wide learning as well as work and conversations in individual classes. We only have one flag pole, so we will proudly display our Every Child Matters flag just inside the front doors of the school for everyone to see.
