Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend!  It was great to see all the excitement and happy faces on our first days of school.  Our Stingers did doing an amazing job transitioning back to ‘school life’.  Keep up the awesome work Stingers!

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

International Dot Day

On Friday, September 15th, millions of children and adults around the globe celebrate International Dot Day. Inspired by The New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds’ classic storybook, The Dot,  for all ages, International Dot Day inspires young and old to embrace the power of personal creativity to change the world.  During the day, our Stingers will participate in various activities to celebrate our creativity and courage.

School Agendas and Start-Up Forms

Data Verification forms, Digital Acceptable Use forms and Freedom of Information forms have been sent home with students.  We ask that these forms are reviewed and returned as soon as possible.  We are hoping that our agendas will be in this week.  Please use this as a tool for communication with the school and classroom teacher. We encourage all students bring in $5.00 to cover the costs of the agenda.

School Day Forms

Last week, School Day forms went home with students who have not yet subscribed to the School Day program.  If you have not yet subscribed, please make sure to review the form and subscribe to School Day.

Hot Lunch

This week, information will be sent home with students regarding hot lunch ordering through the Lunchbox Program.  Our ordering window is open and online for families to order.  The ordering window closes on Sunday, September 17 at noon.  Our hot lunch days are on Wednesdays and Fridays, starting on Wednesday, September 20 and Friday, September 22.

Storrington Stinger Spirit Days

Every Thursday, we encourage our Storrington Stingers to wear their school spirit wear or school colours.  Let’s show our Stinger pride and all dress up in our black, yellow and white school colours!

Emergency Drills

On Thursday, September 14, our Stingers will be participating in the first fire drill of the school year.  These drills are important to ensure that students are aware of the expectations and routines in case of an emergency.

Throughout the year, we will dedicate more time to practice fire drills, hold and secure drills and lockdown drills.  Please take the time to discuss the importance of these drills with your child(ren) and why we take the time to practice.

Threat/Risk Assessment Notification Process

The Limestone District School Board and community partners are committed to making our schools safe for students and staff. As a result, schools will respond to all student behaviours that pose a potential risk to other students, staff, and members of the community. The Community Violence Threat Risk Assessment Process is designed to be proactive in developing intervention plans that address the emotional and physical safety of those involved. A Threat/Risk Assessment is initiated by the school administration or community partners when behaviours have been identified by staff or students that pose a potential risk to self and/or others. Please note: it is important for all parties to support the Violence Threat Risk Assessment Process. However, if for some reason there is a reluctance to participate in the process, by the student of concern or parent/guardian, the threat assessment process will continue in order to ensure a safe and caring environment for all. Families are asked to review the steps of a Threat/Risk Assessment online at http://bit.ly/LDSBthreatassessment.

Late Buses

At times, our school buses are late to pick up students in the morning or are late getting to school to pick up students at the end of the day.  If your child’s bus is late, please visit www.triboard.ca and click on Delays and Cancellations to check on the status of your child’s bus.  As well, you can visit the school’s Twitter account, as we will try to tweet out any late bus information.

Corn Roast/Open House/Storrington School Council

We are very excited to once again host our annual Corn Roast and Open House.  Please mark Thursday, September 28 on your calendars.  The Corn Roast and Open House will begin at 5:00 and end at 6:30.  Our Storrington School Council will hold their first meeting of the school year, starting after the Corn Roast/Open House at 6:30.

News from our Parent Council for the 2023-2024 School Year

If you’re interested in representing our school community and making decisions to support our school, we welcome you to join our Storrington School Council.  We will be having our first parent council meeting on Thursday, September 28th at 6:30 pm, in the school library.

Available elected positions on the council are:

Chair

Co-Chair

Secretary

Treasurer

Social Media Liaison

Indigenous Family Representative

PIC (Parent Involvement Committee) Representative

If you’re interested in any of these positions or would like to nominate someone, please contact the school office for a nomination form or email our council at [email protected].

If you’re not interested in being an elected member, but would like to be more involved or see what we do, please feel free to join.  We are always looking for our school council to be reflective of the school community and the more hands, the lighter the work.

Have a high school student in need of volunteer hours? We would be happy to have them help out and sign off for them.
