Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend!

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Storrington Acts of Amazing

The month of October saw our Stingers doing lots of amazing things!.  Collectively, our Stingers have displayed 1525 Acts of Amazing by showing Humility, Honesty, Bravery, Respect, Love, Wisdom and Truth.  We have set a goal of 10 000 Acts of Amazing this year and we are well on our way.  Great job Stingers!

October Storrington Recognition Certificate Recipients

During our November Spirit and Recognition Assembly, we took the time to celebrate our September Storrington Recognition Certificate Recipients.  These students were recognized by their classroom teacher and classmates for consistently showing Respect, Honesty, Humility, Love, Wisdom, Truth and Bravery during the month of September.  Congratulations to this month’s recipients-  Tanner Shatraw-Neil, Mason Knapp, Raechel Feld, Robert Cunningham-Hogan, Sadie Roberts, Sadie Davidson, Walker Purvis, Jake Helvig, Joe Kerr, Evan Rain, Dax Dixon and Logan Posthumus.

Indigenous Education Month

During the week of November 6 to November 10, our Stingers will recognize Treaties Recognition Week. The week was created in 2016 and was one of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action as way to honoring the importance of treaties and to help students learn more about treaty rights and relationships as we work towards reconciliation.

International Inuit Day will be recognized on Tuesday, November 7.  International Inuit Day is a day to learn more about Inuit cultures, languages, and innovations from across Canada.

National Indigenous Veterans Day is recognized every November 8th.  It is a day where we commemorate the military contributions of Veteran Indigenous Canadians.  Indigenous peoples, nations and communities have contributed to military service, including serving in major wars.  They brought great skills and strengths that were beneficial to the Canadian military.

Remembrance Day/Poppies

On Thursday, November 9, our Storrington Stingers will be commemorating Remembrance Day.  This is an opportunity for our Stingers to honor those who have served and continue to serve our country.  We encourage all our Stingers to wear red and black for Red, Black and Poppy Day.  We encourage our Storrington community to join us for our assembly.  Our assembly will begin at 9:45.

As well, all students will be given a poppy from the Royal Canadian Legion.  Students are encouraged to bring in a donation to support the Legion.

Reading with Sid

To further promote the love of Reading with our Stingers, we have invited a special guest to Storrington.  Every Thursday afternoon, Sid and his handler, Jane, will visit Storrington.  Sid is a 10-year-old Greyhound, who has completed the St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog and Child-Friendly Program.  Students will have the opportunity to read to Sid.  Each week, we will draw student names to read with Sid.

Request for a Speed Limit Change

We are currently in the process of requesting a reduced speed limit change from 80 km/h to 60 km/h, in front of Storrington.  Part of the process is having Storrington families and community members sign a petition to show their support.  A petition has been placed at Ormsbee’s Mercantile.  If you are at Ormsbee’s, please take the time to show your support and sign the petition.  The petition will be available for signing until Friday, November 10.
