Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend!

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Picture Retakes/Class Photos

Picture retakes and class photos have been scheduled for Wednesday, January 25.  Please note that all students will have their class pictures taken.

Bell Let’s Talk Day

Wednesday, January 25 is Bell Let’s Talk Day.  As we know, it is an opportunity to open the conversation around mental health and well-being and to reduce the stigma associated with mental health.  Classes will be participating in activities to support the focus of the day.

Family Literacy Day

Friday, January 27 is Family Literacy Day.  Family Literacy Day is dedicated to raising awareness around the importance of reading and engaging in literacy activities as a family.  The theme of this year’s Family Literacy Day is ‘Celebrate Your Heritage’.  To support Family Literacy Day, all students will receive a booklet of fun activities that can be completed as a family.

If you’re looking for a fun activity to do with the family on Friday, families can sign up for a special event with author and illustrator Barbara Reid.  Barbara will be doing a demonstration on how to use clay to create a picture.  Her presentation will include sharing techniques you can use to make different things, followed by a question and answer session.  The activity is geared towards students in grades 1 to 6.  To register your child, please click here: Barbara Reid Presentation.  Space is limited so you will want to register as soon as possible to secure your spot.

Updates to Provincial Self-Screening Tool and Guidelines

Students and visitors need to continue to self-screen each day, prior to school.

-Students and staff should stay home when sick. Anyone who is feeling sick or has any new or worsening symptoms of illness (including COVID-19 symptoms) should stay home, until:

-their symptoms have been improving for at least 24 hours (or 48 hours for nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea), and

-they do not have a fever, and

-they do not develop any additional symptoms.

-For a total of 10 days after the start any illness symptom, students and staff should continue to wear a well-fitted mask in all public settings (including schools and childcare, unless under two years old) and avoid non-essential activities where mask removal is necessary.

-Asymptomatic individuals with a positive COVID-19 test result do not need to stay home unless symptoms develop. If any symptoms develop, they should stay home and follow the recommended guidelines above.

-Individuals attending school who are immunocompromised who are feeling sick, or have a positive test, should still stay home for 10 days from the start of any symptom or positive COVID result, whichever came first.
