Week at a Glance

Hello Storrington Stingers,

We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend and are well and healthy.  On behalf of all the Storrington Stingers, we want to wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day!

Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.

Storrington Wellness and Fun Day

On behalf of all our Stingers and their families, we want to send a huge thank you to our amazing school council for all their efforts and hard work organizing the Storrington Wellness and Fun Day.  It was an amazing day with lots of fun activities for our Stingers to participate in. Many of our families and Storrington community came out to show their Stinger pride and support our school.  We are very lucky to have such a dedicated and committed school council and school community!

April Storrington Recognition Certificate Recipients

During our last Spirit and Recognition Assembly, we took the time to celebrate our April Storrington Recognition Certificate Recipients.  These students were recognized by their classroom teacher and classmates for consistently showing Respect, Honesty, Humility, Love, Wisdom, Truth and Bravery during the month of September.  Congratulations to this month’s recipients- Lucas Jordan, James Wolfe, Everett Flynn, Lily Hall, Bentley Spencer, Morgan Deevey, Addison Cheseborough, Clyde McCallum, Riley Bencze, Harley Colby, Bentley Portious, Rowan Williams, Paisley Hughson.

Storrington Acts of Amazing

The month of April was another busy month for our Storrington Stingers.  Collectively, they displayed 456 Acts of Amazing by showing Humility, Honesty, Bravery, Respect, Love, Wisdom and Truth.  Our Stingers have earned 3445 marbles so far this year.  Great job Stingers!

Get REAL Presentations

On Tuesday, students in Grades 4 to 8 will participate in Get REAL presentations and workshops.  Get REAL is a Canadian non-profit focused on combatting 2SLGBTQ+ discrimination, racism, and bullying in schools, summer camps, and workplaces. They accomplish this by offering a variety of different educational workshop modules.

Their programming aims to break down prejudice, promote unity, and foster compassion in our world.

-Increased knowledge of identifying, unlearning, and combatting anti-Black racial bias and discrimination.

-Education on language, statistics, and historical context as they relate to anti-Black racism.

-A chance to discuss realistic scenarios pertaining to racial bias and microaggressions.

-The chance for students to honestly ask questions and advice to two BIPOC Get REAL speakers.

Students will walk away feeling empowered, more educated, and have a better understanding of racism in our communities, and concrete ways to support friends and peers of colour and show up as an ally 365 per year!

News from our Storrington School Council

Our last parent council meeting of the year is June 13th.  If you haven’t attended a meeting, come check one out. Weather permitting, we are hoping to do a parking lot meeting and enjoy the sunshine. Child care provided.

Meet the current council and see if this may be something you’d like to be involved with, have the summer to mull it over. Council positions will be available in September, along with just being able to come join in the fun!

Volunteer dates available:

June 13th (TBD)

If any of these are dates that work for your family please email or message us to get put on the list. Thank you
