Week at a Glance- Sept. 25 to Sept 29
Hello Storrington Stingers,
We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend!
Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.
Orange Shirt Day- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On Friday, September 29, our Storrington Stingers will recognize Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is a day to take action towards Truth and Reconciliation and to honour residential school survivors and their families. It is also a day to remember and honour those Indigenous students who did not return from residential schools.
We encourage all students to wear an orange shirt on Friday. As a school, we will be recognizing the importance of the day and learning more about the impact of the residential school system on Indigenous communities through our morning announcements and class discussions and activities.
Scholastic Book Fair
Next week is the Scholastic Book Fair. On Tuesday, classes will have an opportunity to go and view all the items at book fair. On Thursday, students will be able purchase items at the book fair. The book fair will also be open after school on Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 and on Thursday during the Open House/Corn Roast.
Storrington Stinger Soccer
Last week, our Jr. Boys, Jr. Girls and Sr. Boys soccer teams all participated in tournaments. With each game, they all improved and did an amazing job representing Storrington Great job to all our Stingers!
Corn Roast/Open House/Storrington School Council
Our annual Open House and Corn Roast will take place on Thursday, September 28th, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Families will have the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher from 5:00 to 5:30. An announcement will then be made to transition down to the gym to enjoy some local corn, salads and desserts.
As has been our practice in the past, we would ask you to bring your own plates/cutlery and that families with students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 bring a dessert to share while families with students in Grades 4 through 8 bring a salad to share. Those of you with students in both, feel free to choose as you wish.
We are also looking for a couple volunteers to cook the corn. If you’re able to assist, please contact the office.
Make sure to label your containers with your name so that containers can be returned. We do have students who are allergic to tree nuts and peanuts. Please make sure to provide dishes that are tree nut and peanut free.
Finally, our School Advisory Council (SAC) will meet that night at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Please come on out and consider joining our School Council.
The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open for students and families to access from 5:00 to 6:30.
We look forward to seeing everyone and thank you for your ongoing support.
News from our Parent Council for the 2023-2024 School Year
