Week at a Glance- Oct. 2 to Oct. 6
Hello Storrington Stingers,
We hope that all of our Stingers had a great weekend!
Please see the information below in this week’s Week at a Glance.
Orange Shirt Day- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On Friday, September 29, our Storrington Stingers participated in Orange Shirt Day. The day was dedicated to taking action towards reconciliation and to remember and honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada. Many of our students wore an orange shirt and classes recognized the importance of the day through class discussions, lessons and activities.
Storrington Spirit and Recognition Assembly
Our September Storrington Spirit and Recognition Assembly is scheduled for Thursday, October 5 at 10:00. We would like to invite our Storrington community to join us for the assembly. If you are interested in attending, we ask that you arrive at the school by 9:55, so we can start right at 10:00.
Human Development and Sexual Health
Below is a link to the list of Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum from grades 1 to grade 8. Please review the expectations and only fill out the exemption form (second link) if you would like your child to be exempted from the Human Development and Sexual Health portion of their Health class.
Families will get a "heads up" from your child's health teacher a couple of weeks prior to Human Development and Sexual Health being taught in their classroom.

Learning Disabilities Awareness Month
Learning Disabilities Awareness Month is recognized every year in October. The Learning Disabilities Associations of Ontario is raising awareness to reduce stigma in order to allow people of all ages to get the services and supports they need to reach their potential.
World Educator Day
On Thursday, October 5, we will recognize World Educator Day. It is a day dedicated to recognizing the contributions of our amazing educators. The theme of this year’s World Educators Day is ‘The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers.’. Please join us in recognizing and celebrating our educators in everything they do to support our students and school community.
Corn Roast/Open House
On behalf of all the Storrington staff, we would like to thank our school community for joining us for the Corn Roast and Open House. It was great to be able to finally welcome our Storrington families into the school for some great food and conversation. We are hopeful that this is the beginning of many more school community activities.
A special thank you to Lisa Hughson and Chris Sleeth for all their work cooking the corn!
Emergency Drills
On Friday, October 6, our Stingers will be participating in the first hold and secure drill of the school year. These drills are important to ensure that students are aware of the expectations and routines in case of an emergency. Throughout the year, we will dedicate more time to practice fire drills, hold and secure drills and lockdown drills. Please take the time to discuss the importance of these drills with your child(ren) and why we take the time to practice.
